INTRODUCTION TO BAPP

Today marks the day for my first ever blog, which is already taking me out of my comfort zone as I'm used to emailing my tasks and topics to my tutor and keeping it between us. Using this blog allows you and others to view my progress along side with me as I attend the BAPP course.πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ

I had my first Skype call today with one of the module leaders from Middlesex University as I couldn't make the group introduction due to working morning and nights. The module leader introduced me to the course and what BAPP was all about, explaining to look deeper and beyond into ideas. Previously I have studied a Foundation Degree which is mostly written work but for the BAPP I have been told it is more practical which will be a whole different side of work theory to me.

Before my Skype call I read through the Programme Handbook which was emailed to us and it also available on myUniHub. Reading this gave me a faint idea of the course and the call just cleared up any queries I had. I would recommend reading through the handbook before having your Skype call so you're prepared and if you have any questions you can ask the module leader during the call.

  1. Thanks Ronnia -yes you are setting the example of preparing with the handbooks and readers - important with us all working at a distance and so busy- like the term 'work theory' - and also art ideas.

Reflecting on my development in my practice. Since starting module two I have become more aware of the role of a teacher in my practice as well as where I would like my career to go in the future. I have a better understanding of the impact they can make on a child's well being and how much of a influence you can be towards them. Some teachers do not understand fully what impact they can have on students with their attitude and approach to teaching. So I begun to question myself how I would handle myself and approach situation with students in my class, the content and methods used with in my class to achieve the most out of my students. Thinking about my inquiry being around children. I researched into ethics around children and found a very interesting read here is a link as I think it will be beneficial for others to.  www.ethicsdance.co.uk/resources/downloads/A-Dancer-is-A-Person.pdf
New Literature.... After days and days of more researching I came across a professor Marilyn Berrett and ex-student of BYU, Erika Cravath.  Erika Cravath researched about integrating dance into the classroom for her honors thesis project with Marilyn Berrett being one of her mentors on this journey. Erika has also published a book in 2011 the title being "Creative Dance Integration Lesson Plans by Erika Cravath" It's a guide for teachers to help integrate dance into their lessons also giving example lesson plans at the end of the book.  To find this book here is the link:  https://education.byu.edu/sites/default/files/ARTS/documents/educational_movement.pdf   Also here is a video of Marilyn Berrett and Erika Cravath conducting a workshop to teachers on how they can incorporate dance into the classroom environment.   Link:  https://vimeo.com/20476307
Is Web 2.0 making us anti-social? Going back in time when technology wasn't around and we had conversations and met up and was being social-able. Now a days how many of you have everything on electrical devises? I know I do!! I use my phone and Ipad for literally everything. My music for classes, Banking, my dairy etc. Even though technology makes everything so much easier, is it in fact making us anti-social?  With technology and Web 2.0 always developing making it easier for people to maintain consent connection with friends and family through social media, which people are doing. "The problem, they say, is that we spend so much time maintaining superficial connections online that we aren’t dedicating enough time or effort to cultivating deeper real-life relationships." (n.a. 2015) I have to admit I do use social networking a lot to keep in touch with friends and work colleges. It just makes it so much easier knowing that they are a instant message away when need...
